I test AI tools so solopreneurs don’t waste money.
I run a one-person business. Like you, I’m the CEO, marketing department, content team, and customer support — all at once. A few years ago, I started experimenting with AI tools to see if they could genuinely help me do the work of multiple people.
Some tools were game-changers. Most were overhyped. A few were actually harmful (I’m looking at you, “AI SEO tools” that tanked my rankings).
SoloToolkit.tools exists because I couldn’t find honest, solopreneur-focused AI tool reviews anywhere. Most review sites are either written by people who’ve never run a business, or they’re thinly veiled advertisements where every tool gets a glowing review because the site earns commission on all of them.
That’s not how we operate.
Our approach
Every tool reviewed on this site is tested by me, personally, for at least 2 weeks in a real business context. I don’t review tools based on their marketing materials or demo videos — I use them to do actual client work, create real content, and manage real business operations.
My evaluation framework is simple:
- Time saved — Does this tool actually free up hours in my week, or is the time spent learning and managing it a wash?
- Quality of output — Can I send this to a client? Publish this on my site? Or does it need so much editing that I might as well write it myself?
- Cost justification — If this tool costs $X/month, does it save me more than $X in time or outsourced work?
- Solo-friendliness — Does it work for one person, or does it assume you have a team?
When we don’t recommend a tool
We regularly test tools that don’t make our recommendation lists. Some are too expensive for solo operators. Some are buggy. Some solve problems that don’t exist. We won’t recommend a tool just because it pays a high commission — that would destroy the trust you place in our reviews.
A note on affiliate links
Yes, we earn commissions when you sign up through our links. This is how we keep the site running. But our recommendations are based on testing, not commission rates. In fact, some of our top recommendations pay lower commissions than alternatives we didn’t recommend. Full details on our Affiliate Disclosure page.
